This free character counter shows your text length against every major social network at the same time. As you type or paste, it compares your caption to the limits for X (Twitter), Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube, Pinterest, Threads, and Bluesky — so a single draft can be tuned for cross-posting without opening nine separate apps to find out what fits.
Alongside the per-platform breakdown you get a total character count, a count with spaces removed, and a live word count. Each platform row shows characters used, the limit, and how many you have left; the moment you exceed a limit the row turns red and tells you precisely how many characters to trim. It is the fastest way to keep a tweet under 280, a Bluesky post under 300, or a Threads post under 500 while reusing the same core message.
Use it to right-size captions, bios, ad copy, and thread openers before you schedule them. Because everything runs in your browser, counts update instantly and your drafts never leave your device — ideal for unannounced launches and sensitive copy.
Frequently asked questions
Why does each platform show a different character limit?
Every network sets its own ceiling for post or caption text. X caps standard posts at 280 characters, Bluesky at 300, Threads and Pinterest at 500, while Facebook allows tens of thousands. This counter lists all nine side by side so you can write once and instantly see which platforms will accept your text as-is and which need trimming.
How are characters counted?
We count every visible character including spaces, line breaks, punctuation, and emoji, which matches how most platforms measure post length. We also surface a separate count with spaces removed and a word count so you can gauge density at a glance. Note that some networks weigh links or certain emoji differently, so treat the count as an accurate guide rather than a byte-exact match for every edge case.
Is my text sent anywhere or saved?
No. The character counter runs entirely in your browser. Your text is never uploaded to a server, stored, or logged — you can paste sensitive drafts without any privacy concerns, even offline once the page has loaded.
What happens when I go over a platform's limit?
The row for that platform turns red and switches from showing characters remaining to how many characters you are over. That makes it easy to spot exactly how much to cut before your caption gets truncated or rejected at publish time.
