Every platform crops, scales and frames images a little differently, and the size that looks perfect on one can lose its edges on another. This social media image sizes reference collects the recommended dimensions and aspect ratios for Instagram, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, Threads and Bluesky in one table you can filter by platform.
Each size is labeled by where it comes from. “Platform-published” means we found it on the platform's own help, ads or developer pages, and the source links sit under the table. “Common practice” marks widely used sizes for platforms that publish only limits or nothing at all. Every row links to the image resizer, which crops and resizes your image in the browser without uploading it.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best image size for Instagram posts?
A 4:5 portrait image, such as 1080 × 1350 pixels, takes up the most room in the feed. Instagram accepts feed images from 4:5 to 1.91:1, and Meta's ads guide lists 1440 × 1800 for 4:5. Stories and Reels use a vertical 9:16 frame.
What size should a YouTube thumbnail be?
YouTube's help center recommends 3840 × 2160 pixels at 16:9, with a minimum width of 640 pixels. Shorts thumbnails use 9:16 at 2160 × 3840. A 1280 × 720 image keeps the same 16:9 shape if you need a smaller file.
Which aspect ratio works on the most platforms?
There isn't one ratio that is ideal everywhere. Vertical 9:16 suits Stories, Reels, TikTok, Shorts and video Pins. For feed images, 4:5 and 1:1 are widely used on Instagram, Facebook, Threads and LinkedIn, while link previews on Facebook and LinkedIn use 1.91:1.
What does "Common practice" mean in the table?
Some platforms publish limits rather than an exact size, or don't publish image specs at all. Where we couldn't find the number on the platform's own pages, we list a widely used size and label it "Common practice" so you know it isn't an official figure.
