YouTube Hashtag Generator
Generate YouTube and Shorts hashtags for your video.
Hashtags and tags are different things on YouTube. Tags are hidden keywords you enter in YouTube Studio (the YouTube tag generator handles those). Hashtags are visible and clickable: put them in your title or description and each one links to a page of other videos using the same hashtag.
YouTube's help center says up to three hashtags it considers most engaging appear by your video's title, and that if a video has more than 60 hashtags, YouTube ignores every one of them. So a small, relevant set is the whole game. This free YouTube hashtag generator defaults to five, which gives you a couple of options beyond the three that can show by the title without padding the description.
For Shorts, hashtags add context about what the clip is, and YouTube suggests related ones as you add them. Keep them about the video's real topic, since misleading hashtags break YouTube's rules, and schedule the upload with the PostJay YouTube scheduler.
Frequently asked questions
How many hashtags should I use on YouTube?
A few relevant ones. YouTube shows up to three by your title and ignores all hashtags on a video that has more than 60. Three to five focused hashtags is plenty for most videos.
Where do I put hashtags in a YouTube video?
In the title or the description. Hashtags in either become links to a results page of other videos with the same hashtag, and YouTube picks up to three of them to show by your title.
What's the difference between YouTube hashtags and tags?
Tags are keywords entered in YouTube Studio that viewers don't see. Hashtags are part of your title or description and are clickable. Use this tool for hashtags and the YouTube tag generator for tags.
Do hashtags work on YouTube Shorts?
Yes. You can add hashtags to a Short's title or description, and YouTube suggests related ones as you type. Keep them about the Short's actual topic.
