Engagement rate

–

Formula: (likes + comments + saves + shares) ÷ posts ÷ followers × 100

Add your followers to see the result.

On Instagram, likes are only part of the story. Saves and shares are signals that a post was worth keeping or passing on, and the full counts live in Insights. This Instagram engagement rate calculator takes all four interactions (likes, comments, saves and shares) and turns them into one percentage you can track.

Choose how to measure it. By followers tells you how engaged your audience is and is the number brands usually ask for in a media kit. By reach divides by the accounts that actually saw the post, which is fairer to a Reel that spread far outside your followers. The formula and your numbers are shown under the result so you can see exactly how it was worked out.

The quickest way to raise the number is consistency: posting when your followers are around and not going quiet for weeks. PostJay's Instagram scheduler lets you plan feed posts, Reels and carousels ahead of time. Measuring another network? Use the general engagement rate calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my Instagram engagement rate?

Add up a post's likes, comments, saves and shares, divide by your follower count, and multiply by 100. To measure several posts at once, enter the totals and the number of posts, and the calculator averages them per post before dividing by followers.

Where do I find saves, shares and reach on Instagram?

Open the post and tap View insights. You'll see accounts reached plus likes, comments, saves and shares for that post. Insights are built for professional (creator or business) accounts, so if you don't see the option, switch your account type in settings.

Is engagement by reach better than engagement by followers?

They answer different questions. By reach shows how compelling a post was to the people who actually saw it, which makes it fairer for posts that travelled beyond your followers through Explore or Reels. By followers shows how engaged your audience is overall. Many brands ask creators for the follower-based figure, so it's worth knowing both.

Do hidden like counts change the calculation?

No. If you hide like counts on your posts, other people can't see them, but you can still find the full number in the post's insights. Use that number here. If you're calculating a competitor's rate and their likes are hidden, you'll only be able to work with comments, so the result will read low.
